Christies has announced that The Pink Legacy – the largest and finest Fancy Vivid Pink diamond ever presented by the company at auction – will be offered for sale at their Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva in November.
Formerly belonging to the Oppenheimer family, the diamond weighs 18.96 carats and is estimated to sell between $30 to $50 million to the (very lucky) buyer. It is cut into a classic rectangular shape and is also internally very pure.
A “Vivid” colour is the highest diamond colour grade awarded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), and means The Pink Legacy is among the most strongly saturated of these gems.
Tom Moses, Executive Vice President of the GIA, says, “Pink diamonds of any size and depth of colour have always had a special allure even amongst knowledgeable industry members. This 18.96 carat emerald cut pink diamond is amongst the rarest of all gemstones.”
The Diamond is expected to sell between US$30 to US$50million
Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s International Head of Jewellery, has high expectations for the diamond, commenting, “The discovery of this previously un-recorded and remarkable diamond will cause immense excitement with collectors and connoisseurs of diamonds around the world. Its exceptional provenance will no doubt propel it into a class of its own as one of the world’s greatest diamonds.”
